This portfolio covers some of the work I’ve done. More or less all of it qualifies as creative problem-solving; I don’t always properly categorize my work because there’s a lot of disciplinary overlap. I just try to solve problems.
I am very comfortable skinning web applications with graphics, icons, colors, typography, and styles or anything associated with the front end that isn’t related to programming. I only work with client scripts for light-duty interface features, and I let the code guys do their thing because they do it better. I prefer to be involved with architecture, which is why information design and the user experience are disciplines I in which I find plenty of inspiring challenges. In my opinion there are thousands of self-described graphic designers who do it better than me. I do graphic design as well as I need to, and to the end that it serves the problem-solving associated with user interface design and software design in the big picture.
The same goes for content writing; writing is something I can do reasonably well in the service of a problem-solving. I’ve noticed that I have much less trouble managing interfaces whose tips are brief and well-formed, in a human-sounding syntax rather than robot-speak. Communication and design are the same thing to me.
